The Morning Call
The return of Malawian president Peter Mutharika to the capital Lilongwe has raised more questions in the country than it did earlier when rumours were rife that he was ill in the United States. Mutharika had left the country to attend the United Nations General Assembly only to go missing with no word from the presidency for two weeks leaving his party’s officials back home to wade off suspicions of his exact whereabouts. Information circulated by local media in the country also indicated that his ruling party had been plotting to bump off Mutharika’s deputy Saulos Chilima in a move that would bar him from taking power in case anything happened to the incumbent.
